HRM in Practice Assessment Task: Structured Essay
Answered

Assessment Tasks

Further information about general assessment criteria, regulations, referencing and plagiarism can be found on the module’s site on the e-Learning Portal.  Students are advised to read and follow this information.

Assessment Tasks:

Produce a 3,000 word* structured essay (i.e. using headings and sub-headings throughout) that draws upon recent academic sources (book chapters and journal articles) and addresses the following two tasks:

1.Identify and in the light of recent academic literature explain a key contemporary debate in each of the nine HRM in Practice topics that have been covered in classes 3-8 and 10-12 (use a heading for each topic) [40%].

2.In the case of a selected organization (your choice), focus on two of the key topic-debates you have identified above (one topic-debate selected from classes 3-8, one topic-debate selected from classes 10-12).  Draw upon HR / OS theory and published research findings to analyse and critically evaluate HR practice in your selected organization in relation to the two topic-debates and propose strategically and culturally appropriate HR practice recommendations for your selected organization in relation to these topic-debates [60%].

* Word limit excludes the reference list: you should use at least twelve recent academic sources.

oIn writing this assignment you should reflect upon and use the formal tutor feedback provided on assessment 1, the in-class test, and informal feedback received within the classes.

oFinal, more detailed, support for completing this assignment will be given in class 9.

This part of the assessment constitutes 80% of your marks for this module.

Word limits and penalties for assignments

If the assignment is within +10% of the stated word limit no penalty will apply.

The word count is to be declared on the front page of your assignment and the assignment cover sheet.  The word count does not include:

·Title and Contents page ·Reference list ·Appendices ·Appropriate tables, figures and illustrations

·Glossary ·Bibliography .

Please note, in text citations [e.g. (Smith, 2019)] and direct secondary quotations [e.g. “analysis of the data we gathered suggests that … ” (Smith, 2019 p.123)] are INCLUDED in the word count.

If this word count is falsified, students are reminded that under ARNA page 30 Section 3.4 this will be regarded as academic misconduct.

If the word limit of the full assignment exceeds the +10% limit, 10% of the mark provisionally awarded to the assignment will be deducted.  For example: if the assignment is worth 70 marks but is above the word limit by more than 10%, a penalty of 7 marks will be imposed, giving a final mark of 63.

Assignments are to be uploaded by no later than the official deadline via the TurnItIn portal provided on the assessment area of the elp.
