EG4013 Construction Technology

A local building developer wishes to build a commercial office building on a small urban site in Canning Town.  They have planning permission to have a five-storey residential accommodation block.  The structure can be made of either reinforced concrete or timber.  The ground is good strong sandy clay with no specialist foundations required.

1. Describe & explain with the aid of clear labelled diagrams, or photographic images, the typical materials and components used for the following elements of the building:

1. Likely type foundations  needed  
2. Overview of the building structure and the likely materials to be used.
3. The type of cladding for the building

2. Identify  the construction processes used to build the residential building and envelope as outlined above.  

Concentrate your efforts on the trade skills required and typical construction plant used.

3. Identify and describe three main factors where Building regulations will apply to this building to guarantee the safety and comfort of the occupants.  Provide specific references to the building regulations.
