Client requirementsÂ
Â
A new hotel with conference facilities is to be developed on the site on the page attached. The client requires the hotel to accommodate 300 guests and the accompanying conference centre to cater for the same number. Single and multiple occupancy rooms as well as wings need to be provided. Other amenities such as restaurants, lounges, storages, toilets..etc and the reception area are also required.Â
The client wishes the building to embody the countryside green nature surrounding it and is also looking for a bold and iconic design. Landscaping and provision of green space within and outside the building is particularly welcome.Â
The venue is seeking an attractive facade for the structure but no decision was made regarding the type of cladding to be used. Nor have any planning restrictions been placed on the cladding material. The client is a keen promoter of sustainability and environmental awareness, so this must be reflected in the proposed design.
a) You are required to work individually to prepare your own design proposals. You are required to develop a conceptual design to satisfy the client and other requirements. This part of your work will be presented to the âclientâ. Â [20% OF TOTAL MARK]
b) You are then required to join a group of Engineers to form a company (exact number and group arrangement will be advised by the Tutor). The name of your company must be included in all submissions and presentations (along with each student name and number).
⢠Working as a group you are required to appraise the individual schemes and select/develop a conceptual design for the structure. This part of your work will be presented by means of a PowerPoints presentation. The presentation must cover the points in âaâ above as well as explaining the rationale for choosing the preferred scheme. Presentation preparation, topics and duration must be split equally. Guidance and marking scheme is given on Moodle.  [5% OF TOTAL MARK]
c) Working individually you are required to develop your own conceptual design for the structure using your chosen scheme identified in âaâ above (not the one selected by the group, unless they selected yours). This must be carried out along the group work for submission by the final deadline in âhâ below. You need to provide (Individual Submission):Â Â [40% OF TOTAL MARK]
d) For the scheme selected/agreed by the group, further work is needed to carry out design calculations to size the key structural elements and prepare their construction drawings (which must show arrangement and details of these key elements).
e) Following the completion of calculations, structural drawings must be produced to convey the outcomes of the calculations (to depict the layout, size and details of the principal structural elements). Each team member must present his/her own individual drawings presenting outcomes of own share of design calculations. Sufficient details and dimensions are needed so that workers on-site can use them for construction. The drawings must be ready for submission by the final deadline in âhâ below.  [10% OF TOTAL MARK]
f) Working as a group you must provide a final summary of all key aspects of proposal to the âclientâ by means of a PowerPoint presentation. This is your companyâs opportunity to convince the client with their bid to win the contract ahead of competitor companies (presenting on the same day!). Guidance and marking scheme available on Moodle. [5% OF TOTAL MARK]
