1. A two storey school building is required for a new town as shown in Figure 1.
2. The school building is to provide 24 classrooms located on two levels, equally divided either side of a hall and administration facilities. The classrooms are to be accessed from a central corridor at each level.
3. Columns are only permitted around the perimeter of the building and on the wall lines of the central corridor.
4. The internal clear floor height to all areas, except the hall, is to be 2.8m with a 200mm clear service zone under the structure. An external enclosed staircase is required at each end of the central corridor.
5. The building is to be clad in a flat composite cladding system and the roof is clad with composite profile sheeting.
Your design team is required to produce design of critical structural elements excluding detailed design of the lift/elevator shafts, stairs and foundations. Following documents need to be submitted by the specific deadlines. The marks allocated are indicated in brackets.
? Following the scheme/concept design phase, you must also work in group of two on your chosen scheme and must produce the deliverables listed below Please split the work equally and write your initials on each page:
? Produce sufficient design calculations to establish the form and size of all principal structural elements. Establishing “form and size” is taken to mean compliance with all relevant design criteria, i.e. bending, shear, deflection, etc. The design calculations must include clear loading and structural analysis calculations (the idealisations used and boundary conditions need to be clearly defined using sketches). (40 % marks)
? Clear drawings must be presented immediately following the calculations part (use A3 sheets and clearly write your ID and initials) to neatly show:
Drawings (structural plans and elevations) to show the dimensions and layout of structural elements and critical detailed drawings of main elements. (10% marks)
? Prepare a brief method statement for the safe construction of the building. (5% marks)
