Proposal for Investigation of a Company or Organisation

Task Description

Students to submit an outline proposal for an investigation into an organisation for approval by the module tutor. The organisation could be your current or former place of work or an organisation with which you are familiar or investigations could be undertaken within any voluntary activities that you participate in or come into contact with. Students will explore published literature relating to their chosen company or organisation. The literature should be relevant, credible and current. The literature will be supplemented by a review of key issues and potential areas of work/ volunteering within the case study organisation. The literature review and initial consultation exercise will enable students conduct some initial research and produce an evaluative management report on the case study organisation, formulating ideas of how they can add value. The production of this initial report will incorporate academic referencing and report writing convention.

The report should contain the following: 

1.The sector in which it operates, the size, structure and explain its goals, mission and values 

2.Identify its customers and what they expect from the organisation in terms of goods and/ or services 

3.Include a SWOT or PESTLE analysis to support your explanation 

4.Explain about the role of the employees within the organisation and how they support the organisation achieve its goals 

5.Explain about training and development and why this is important to organisations

6.Select a role from your chosen organisation and explain the importance of this role to the organisation 

7.Explain the skills and knowledge needed to carry out the role. 

8.Explain what training and development requirements need to be considered.

9.Include a conclusion about what you have found out about the organisation 

Follow a report structure with an introduction, discussion and analysis of the organisation and a conclusion. Maximum word count is 2000. Your report must be referenced using Harvard referencing conventions

1. Understand and evaluate the concept of transferable skills and the how to adapt them to the requirements of an organisational setting (Organisational analysis and Reflective evaluation).

2. Evaluate concepts of community and of personal development and ways of reviewing and extending interpersonal skills (Reflective evaluation) applying theoretical concepts and creative problem solving to real situations (Praxis - theory to practice).
