Creating an Audio-Visual Presentation to Explain the Role of a Body System or Physiological Process

Instructions

Context:

This assessment aims to improve your:

i) ability to identify and articulate a system/physiological process and integrate with homeostasis

ii) ability to effectively and accurately communicate information through an engaging set of slides

iii) skills on evaluation and reflection of essential knowledge, concepts and understanding

iv) ability to independently learn while developing in depth learning attributes

Create a five (5)-minutes audio-visual presentation to explain the role of the body system/physiological process of your choice in homeostasis AND discuss its role in movement OR protection.

1. Choosing your topic

Choose one (1) of the body systems/physiological processes covered in this subject and create a five (5)-minutes PowerPoint presentation that includes audio (voice over) and visual components (12 slides). The choice of a body system/physiological process may include one whole system, such as the integumentary system, or an organ, such as the heart, or even specific cell(s) of the respiratory system. You can also choose one or more physiological process that is part of a system. For example, skin regeneration, the role of melanocytes in protecting other cells in epidermis, osteoblasts/clasts involved in blood calcium homeostasis, cardiac cycle, oxygenation, skeletal muscle contraction and relaxation.

2. Content of your presentation

The content of your presentation should explain the role of your chosen topic in homeostasis. Your presentation should also include a discussion on the role of your chosen topic in movement OR protection. To support the content of your presentation, it is important to define the levels of organization (cells, tissues, organs), structure and function of your chosen topic. You are expected to use scientific or medical terminology in your presentation.

Step 1 – Title and full name

You should include a title slide (usually slide 1) with the title of the selected topic and also your full name and student ID.

Step 2 – Introduction and/or background

You should introduce your topic and provide some background information on the chosen topic. You might need 1 or 2 slides for this step, therefore, usually slides 2 and/or 3.

Step 3 – Objectives/goals of your presentation

Identify one (1) or two (2) objectives/goals that will be covered in your presentation. For example, an objective can be “how your chosen topic contributes to homeostasis/structure and function of a target organ(s), tissue(s) and/or cell(s) of the system”. One (1) slide recommended.

Step 4 – Content of your presentation

Your presentation should include the content/explanations that supports your objective(s). Include at least two (2) relevant diagrams, graph, infographic, table and/or other visual aids to enhance/support your explanations. Please ensure these are referenced properly (APA style). You can dedicate about 6 to 7 slides for this step. It is recommended to provide the content/explanations until slide 10.

Step 5 – Conclusion and references

Provide a conclusion slide (slide 11) for your presentation. Also, to support your presentation a list of references (slide 12) used and cited during the presentation slides is required.

Students are required to record a voice-over narration to further elaborate on their presentation. This should provide further context and details. Please use the documents below for more instructions on how to record an audio PowerPoint presentation. The audio should be clear and succinct with the use of correct terminology. The audio recording should not exceed 5 minutes .
