Part 1

Some rather substantial results have been found for students at VV Middle School, as referenced in the Quiet Time program.

watch the video first link below

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U9-phWL8t08

  1. Describe two of the outcomes where the program participants showed different results as measured during the timeframe that the video was made.
  2. Explain why you think, based on what you know about mindfulness so far?
Part 2

From your reading  "Mindfulness and Social Emotional Learning (SEL): A Conceptual Framework  Download Mindfulness and Social Emotional Learning (SEL): A Conceptual Framework  https://dl.uswr.ac.ir/bitstream/Hannan/139766/1/9783319440194.pdf

consider and respond with a few sentences at most for each of the three questions (clearly identify each answer by number and spacing between your answers):

In the article, Lawlor offers rationale for the concepts proposed to be used not only for students, but teachers and staff.

1) On one hand, given that most K-12 schools have limited, if any, SEL programming, how realistic is it that mindfulness be added to the mix for students OR teachers? Explain your answer.

2) On the other hand, is it possible for SEL programs to be successful without some incorporation of mindfulness techniques? Why or why not?

3) On the figurative third hand, how can education be its most successful for all if SEL and mindfulness are not integrated into learning environments, at any or all age levels? Explain your answer

Daniel Goleman (Harvard Ph.D. psychologist and author/journalist, widely known for his work in Emotional Intelligence) and Richard Davidson (researcher/professor/author at the University of Wisconsin) take a somewhat relaxed, buddy-like approach to introduce these topics to their Harvard Business Review audience.

While the first 8+ minutes provide a partial overview of the brain/neurological aspects that mindfulness practice can affect, around minute 8:40, Goleman asks what other important findings/benefits that mindfulness makes in the business world.

List what initial impacts they were describing previously (prior to 8:40), and then list what general areas Davidson provided as an answer (and Goleman summarized) followed for the next couple of minutes (up until 9:50 or so, where the conversation turns to the hype/poor research, according to them.)

1) Initial Impacts

2) General areas Davidson discusses between 8:40-9:50.

Part 4

Marissa Levin, in the Inc. article provided, " (Links to an external site.)Why Google, Nike, and Apple Love Mindfulness Training, and How You Can Easily Love It Too" (Links to an external site.), seems to want business people to "love" mindfulness in the workplace.

1) In your own words, in a few sentences, provide a general overview of how mindfulness is being "sold" to business people.

2) Specifically, what are the promises of its implementation in the workplace as shared in this article designed for a business audience?

Part 5

In the Atlantic Monthly article, "Corporations' Newest Productivity Hack: Meditation", (Links to an external site.) David Gelles, author of Mindful Work, is interviewed.

Gelles provides a rich description of how meditation is, and is not, being implemented equally across US companies, and some of the exciting results and potential challenges.

In a few sentences, highlight at least one of these that interest or concern you the most and tell me why.

Part 6

Consider and respond:

In the Harvard Business Review article, "How Meditation Benefits CEOs", the author lists five areas of benefit.

1) What are these?

2) In a few sentences, do you think CEOs are the only employees in an organization that could benefit from these; why or why not?
