DDHA 8203 Advanced Healthcare Operations Management
Task
Imagine you are an emergency medical technician (EMT). You have worked for 2 years to learn and gain the knowledge and skills to successfully do your job. All of this education and practice has helped you to create a repository of information and skills that you can use to save lives. The trick to success, however, is to know what tool to use at what time because no two calls and no two situations are exactly the same. The same can be said of performance improvement tools in healthcare administration. Tools like the Baldrige criteria, Lean, and Six Sigma can all help to improve organizational operations, but the trick is to know which tools to use and at what time. The purpose of this course and this Discussion is to expose you to various tools and knowledge to help you create your own repository of information and skills so you are prepared to address challenges in the best way possible.
In this Discussion, you will be analyzing a selected operational problem from the perspective of various performance improvement tools. How could each tool help to improve the situation? Which tool might be the more appropriate? What role does data and analytics pay in the selection and implementation of these tools?
To prepare for this Discussion:
Review the HSO that you selected in your Module 2 Assignment.
Based on what you have learned about this HSO type thus far, consider if this HSO type is still where you see yourself in the future.
If it is not, select a different type of HSO that better fits that criteria and contact your instructor to ensure that it meets the requirements. Note that by the conclusion of this course, you should have settled on one HSO to research through the remainder of the program.
Review the operational problem that you considered in Module 3.
Post a comprehensive response to the following:
State your selected HSO type and operational problem.
Explain how you would approach the same operational problem using Ws of the following process improvement tools:
- Lean
- Six Sigma
- PDCA
- Project Management
Explain how data and analytics are critical to supporting. understanding. and addressing the selected operational problem.
