Creating a Supply Chain Poster for a Laptop Ordered through Takelot.com

Part 1

Description

This assignment is about creating a poster to illustrate a supply chain for a specific product.

This assignment has 3 components, and you need to work in groups Up to 3 members per group may work on an assignment. You may first discuss, and use WhatApp (if you like), plan and then do the assignment.

The assignment has 3 components:

Component A

Look at the definition of a supply chain is in your reading, lecture slides as well as in the Transcripts on the lecture videos. Also make sure that you understand the difference between a supply chain and logistics in order to prepare for this assignment. It is good to first discuss these important concepts with your group member(s).

Component B

 “takealot.com is the leading ecommerce retailer in South Africa and one of the largest, most innovative ecommerce retailers on the African continent.

The business was initiated with a simple vision in mind: To be the largest, simplest, most customer-centric online shopping destination in Africa. It has rapidly evolved since inception, opening and expanding warehouses in Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town, while expanding department selection to over 21 departments across Electronics, Lifestyle, Media & Gaming and Fashion.”

• Look at how a person would go about ordering a laptop from Takelot: select a laptop that ships in a few days-the time is not important as long as it needs to be shipped (make sure you know from where it is shipping- this will depend on what type of laptop you select, in other words, where is it manufactured?). All this info needs to be written down or captured because you will need it for a poster. While you are on the site, also explore how a person orders and makes a payment through Takelot.

Component C

Make a poster illustrating a supply chain of a laptop (that is ordered through Takelot.com from the manufacturing (abroad) right through to where the consumer ends with

• Now unpack with blocks, sticky notes, cards, or any other creative way, all the components of the supply chain and name each component (be specific to your computer type that you selected and bear in mind it is coming from abroad to you here in SA delivered via Takelot and you have payed via credit card). Please do not use generic illustrations of supply chains available online. These will not be assessed as they are not specific enough.
• Use the site to look at how a typical transaction like this is done from the customer point of view and also draw/pack the flow of information (be specific as to what that information is as well)
• Once you and the group member(s) are happy with all the components of the supply chain for the laptop, indicate where logistics will be involved (here you may use another colour to show all the parts or processes involved with logistics, or use a key at the bottom of the illustration to indicate various places where logistics come to play.
• Add a block in the left corner (bottom) loose standing from the illustration and list 5 of the primary activities that Takelaot can do to add value for their customer (look at lecture video on the value chain and think practically what such activities might be for example: 1) evidence to trace the package)
