In your own words with relevant examples define communication.

You just observed students who were chilling outside few minutes after the bell rang. The principal then goes out of his office carrying a stick without saying a word he just stares at them with a frown face and red eyes. Immediately they notice him and quickly run to their respective classes. 

 

As an observer, would you say that communication has occurred? Justify your answer in a brief essay considering three characteristics of communication? (8)

The minister of Higher Education, Science and Innovation Dr Blade Nzimande, called a Media briefing to updates the public about the readiness of the post school education and training as well at NSFAS funding process for academic year 2022. The Media Briefing took place at Ronnie Mamoepa Press Room, Tshedimoso House, 1035 Francis Baard Street, Hadfield on the Tuesday, 01 February 2022. During the briefing, the minister share slides that indicated the graphs to illustrate the financial changes and return plans for the students. The parents and students were left confused as the language used was unclear to them as to whether they are expected to go back to contact learning and funding plans for 2022. They insist on a chance to pose questions to the minister through comments box and media houses that were invited. At the end of his address, the minister provided the journalist with an opportunity to ask questions. 

Based on the scenario, identify the components of communication and briefly explain them. (14)

Think of the last time you interacted with your best friend you thought was telling the truth but whom you now know was lying to you. What was it about this person's behaviour that initially caused you t believe that he/she was being truthful, Now looking back, how many of verbal and non-verbal communication do you recall the person exhibiting during your interaction? (8)

You are a newly appointed public relations practitioner at an organisation. Given the above scenario, distinguish the various formal and informal communication styles you would use to introduce yourself to your colleagues and orientate yourself in the organisation? Substantiate your answer by providing relevant examples.

Think of an instance when you communicated unintentionally. Explain whether the consequences were good or bad. If you had a chance to correct the unintentional communication, how would you do it? (8) 

 

Use the following as a checklist for technical presentation: 

• Have you included a declaration of honesty as the first page of your assignment?

 

• Have you and a witness signed your declaration (or have you provided the names of your witness/es if you submitted the assignment online)?

 

• Have you included a table of contents with headings and the correct levels of headings?

 

• Have you included an introduction and conclusion?

 

• Have you edited your assignment to ensure that there are no spelling and language errors?

 

• Have you correctly cited (referenced) and included a list of sources consulted at the end of your assignment?
