(b) To assess Rob’s unhelpful actions and comments that could inhibit Lauren from modifying her behaviours and addressing her alcohol consumption as recommended. (You will need to provide examples from the scenario and explain why the actions were unhelpful to assist Lauren).
3. Based on Rob’s unhelpful actions and comments you identified in Question 2b, suggest modifications Rob could make during the consultation to encourage Lauren to make constructive decisions that will positively influence her broader health outcomes (E.g. maintain confidentiality, which in turn develops patient- client trust, thus Lauren may feel respected, encouraging her to seek further timely support in regards to any ongoing health concerns).
4. To describe the theoretical techniques Rob should employ to assist Lauren in addressing alcohol consumption as recommended. (You will need to think about the behaviour change techniques (at least two) that have been discussed in the resources and apply these techniques to the scenario to explain how Rob could support Lauren in addressing her alcohol consumption.
Specifically, this case enquiry relates to Lauren, a 16-year-old girl who has been seeing a GP about several physical conditions such as a lack of energy and her asthma. Rob, the GP treating Lauren, is experiencing some difficulties working with Lauren. Rob has been working with Lauren over several consultations. However, progress has been slow and Lauren appears uninterested. Indeed, Rob is worried that Lauren’s general health and well-being are becoming worse rather than better. Things are not good from Lauren’s perspective either and Lauren has complained about Rob to her mother Julie and step-father David.
