You have been hired to upgrade a network of 50 computers currently connected to 10 Mbps hubs. This long-overdue upgrade is necessary because of poor network response time caused by a lot of collisions occurring during long file transfers between clients and servers.
• How do you recommend upgrading this network?
• What interconnecting devices will you use, and what benefit will you get from using these devices?
• Write a short memo describing the upgrade and, if possible, include a drawing of the new network.
Case Project 2-2
Two hundred workstations and four servers on a single LAN are connected by a number of switches. You're seeing an excessive number of broadcast packets throughout the LAN and want to decrease the effect this broadcast traffic has on your network.
• What steps must you take to achieve this goal?
To avoid the collision of the data the hubs are required to be re-placed with switches. IN addition to this the bandwidth of the network also needs to be increase and also the processing speed of the entire system [1]. The switches would help in spreading the traffic over the whole network. It would also help the monitoring process of the network. Hence, the switches would be simplifying the traffic of the network and make it easier for the components of the network to transfer the data in between them very easily.
For upgrading the system 3 switches has to be used to accommodate 50 systems in the network. The switch that are to be used are full duplex switches having 24 ports each. The switches that are to be used should be full duplex and hence, there would be no collision within the network. The switch would help to buffer the data packets and pass it to its assigned destination when the network is in idle state. When the network is busy the switch will buffer the packet and will release the packets and again when the network is free the switches would start dispatching the data packets.

SUBJECT: Network upgrades for resolving the collision related problems
The major problem of the current scenario is that the poor response time of the network is causing a lot of collisions that are taking place due to the huge amount of the data transfers in between the servers and the client.
