Guide to Analyzing Case Histories for Viral Diseases

Step 1: Underline Important Components of the Case History

Your assignment is to select one case history and answer the questions listed.  Your answers should be written in narrative style, using complete sentences.  One-sentence answers are not acceptable, as the questions involve more detailed answers.  You may use outside sources in researching your case history.  Please list your sources at the end of your answer using APA or MLA format.

Your assignment should be one page in length, typed.  I will leave the spacing to your discretion.  Do not go overboard with this assignment, as the point value is equal to a quiz.  Please provide the number of your case study in the upper right hand corner of your document.

Here are some guidelines to assist you in analyzing your case history:

1.  Underline all components of the mini-case history that you think are important in reaching a diagnosis.

2.  Make a list of all the viruses that fall into the designated category and produce diseases of the kind described in the mini-case history.

3.  Eliminate viruses from your list by using the additional information presented in the case history.

4.  Once you have identified the virus involved, go on to determine treatment strategy, other at risk individuals, and methods of infection prevention, as appropriate.
