Developing a Creative Podcast Idea to Generate Positive Consumer Attitudes on Social Media

Objective

The objective of this assignment is twofold. First, I want you to think about attitudes from a critical perspective by identifying a method to generate positive consumer attitudes. Second, I want you to gain experience thinking about creative ways to use social media so I am asking you to produce a brief outline of a podcast idea. 

While brief, this assignment aligns with the course’s learning goals. Specifically, this assignment provides you with factual knowledge and methods of consumer behavior. The assignment also allows you to apply course material to improve critical thinking and problem solving.

There are not a lot of steps to this assignment. Basically, I’d like you to develop (not create) a podcast idea. BE CREATIVE. Your goal is to get a target audience to “like” you and to listen to your info. To do this, you will need to answer the following questions:

1. What is your topic?

2. Who is your target audience? (FACTS: demographics & characteristics; citations are needed, please don’t make up facts 

3. How will your topic stand out from the crowd (no celebs, giveaways…etc.; Let’s assume you have the equipment plus $10)

4. What’s the name of your podcast? 5. Outline your first TWO podcasts: this should be somewhat specific—for example, if I were developing a podcast I would focus on newcomers to Detroit, a topic that is highly relevant for me since of the

5 friends I’ve made here, 3 decided to leave within the first year. So I would focus my podcasts on the following: 

PODCAST ONE: THE BASICS (a basic understanding of Detroit newcomers)

a.Exploring why newcomers have decided to come to Detroit

b.Where do newcomers typically live

c.how they are finding a sense of community

d.Favorite spots in Detroit

e.What the future looks like (do they plan to stay here, why or why not?

f.What they would like to see happen in Detroit

PODCAST TWO: TWO SIDES OF DETROIT (understanding how Detroit *works*)

a.How do newcomers view the political landscape in Detroit

b.Understanding the lowdown on Detroit’s ‘low downs’ : taxes, crime, litter, education, policing, and pedestrian deaths

c.The bright sides of Detroit

What are you doing to get your audience to “like” you and where are you drawing inspiration ?

7. What type of motivational need does your podcast fulfill for the consumer?

8. Which of the four functions of attitudes does your podcast serve

9. Let’s assume that you can describe your podcast using Balance Theory. Please do so, remembering that you cannot use a celebrity in your podcast or in your answer to this question .
