Two weeks before the project presentation (VIVA) (see table 2) the students must submit their project Thesis onto Moodle.
The thesis must be complete in itself and must cover all work undertaken under the project, even if it has been previously described in weekly reflections. It should also identify the consequences of delivering this project with respect to the Engineering environment in Bahrain, explain how your research project can serve the needs of Bahrain and state the impacts and benefits of your research results for the Bahraini society.
The structure of the thesis should be:
Title Page
Abstract Page
Acknowledgements (optional)
Table of Contents
Table of figure and tables
Introduction
Analysis and Methodology
Results and discussion
Conclusion
Bibliography/References
Appendices (optional)
The main report including appendices should be produced as a single document and not as a series of separate sections. The below order and contents are suggested to be followed:
1. Title Page The Title Page must contain the title of the project, Name of authors, supervisor’s name as well as the Bahrain Polytechnic Logo.
2. Abstract (<300 words)
The abstract must contain brief summary of the research project and an overview of what has been achieved. The abstract is a summary of the document’s purpose, methods, major findings, and conclusions. It should be less than 300 words. The Acknowledgements are optional but recommended. The exact content of this page is up to you.
4. Table of contents Electronically generated. This table must be detailed.
5. Table of figures and tables Electronically Generated.
6. Introduction
This part of the thesis must contain very clearly:
a) A little background information about the project.
b) The motivation of the research
c) Literature review (A range of relevant material to the project. Everything has to be cited to the reference by the bibliography. Your approach has to be summarized here at the end of this review.)
d) The consequences of delivering this project with respect to the Engineering environment in Bahrain. Explain how your project can serve the needs of Bahrain and state the impacts and benefits of your project for the Bahraini society.
e) The project’s aims and objectives.
f) A summary of the remaining chapters of the report.
7. Analysis and Methodology
This part consists of the analysis of the problem (may cover more of the area than is finally implemented), the project objectives in appropriate detail, the design technic chosen (analysis), the methodology, the requirements / constrains, the theoretical background and the work program
followed.
8. Results and Discussion
This part of the thesis must contain the findings (all the results, experimental or numerical or analytical findings, products, designs etc.) generated during the project and goals achieved (describe if the findings support the original objectives). The discussion should also be sufficiently detailed to assist potential users to access whether the results are likely to be applicable to their situation. Identify how your project serves the needs of Bahrain, the impacts, and the benefits. Be sure to mention the possible skills Bahrainis need to start/design this, and how could such skills be developed.
9. Conclusions and recommendations
This part should highlight all the main conclusions made throughout the whole project in every stage including the impacts and benefits for Bahrain society. This section should also detail any recommendations for future related activities and improvements.
10. References Include a list of all the references that have been used. (APA style)
11. Appendices (if necessary) In this part, further details of results, mathematical derivations, parts of program code can be presented.
