For Short-Term Study Visa

Dos:

  • Take a short course in UK such as an English language course or training course
  • Conduct a short period of research in UK as part of the degree course you are pursuing abroad.

Period of Applying:

Courses you can Avail:

  • Learning English course

You must be at least 18 years and accepted in a course to learn English as a foreign language if you are applying for short-term study visa.

  • Overseas course

You are eligible to get short-term student visa if you are studying at overseas higher education institutions and desire to continue your degree in UK. In this case, your institution must,

  • Boast its own national accreditation
  • Offer only a part of degree in UK
  • Offer programs that are equivalent to UK degree.
  • Short research program in UK

You are also eligible for short-term student visa if you desire to conduct a short research program in UK and are already enrolled in an overseas degree program.

You must provide evidence of your course like a letter of acceptance from the educational institution on an official paper, stating the course name, duration and cost.

If you are under 18, you need,

  • Written certification from yourself to travel to UK

Travelling with an Adult:

If you are travelling to UK with an adult (someone 18 or over), you need to identify them in your visa application. Their names will be mentioned on your visa. If you arrive without them, you will not be allowed to enter the country.

How to Apply:

You need to apply online unless you are from North Korea. Follow these steps:

  1. Register an account with the UKVI (UK Visa and Immigration)

For Tier 4 (General) Student visa

Dos:

  • Studying a subject in an educational institution
  • Work as a student sabbatical officer
  • Extend your stay in UK
  • Apply for visa either inside or outside UK
  • Take up a job depending on the nature of your course and sponsor.

Don’ts:

  • Invite public funds
  • Become a professional sportsperson, including sports coach
  • Pursue a course with an academy or a local authority-funded school.

Period for Applying:

You can apply for a visa 3 months before the start of your course. Moreover, you will be informed within 3 weeks regarding your visa.

Eligibility:

  • You must have an unconditional offer to a course with a licensed Tier 4 sponsor
  • Enough monetary backing to support yourself to pay for course fees.

The moment you get selected for the course, your institute will send you a reference number called a confirmation of acceptance for studies (CAS). You need to enter this number in your visa application form.

Required English knowledge:

You must appear for a Secure English Language Test (SELT) to prove your English knowledge. But you can avoid this test if you recently obtained a degree that is equivalent to a UK degree from,

  • Ireland
  • Belize
  • Dominica
  • Barbados
  • Grenada

Mandatory documents:

  1. Similarly to short-term student visa, the applicant needs to apply online for this type of visa
  2. After creating an account, you need to complete the form by filling in the information required and submitting all required documents
  3. Then pay the visa fees plus charges for the healthcare surcharge
  4. Make an appointment at visa application center for biometrics taken. (You need to collect biometric residence permit within 10 days of when you intend to arrive in UK)
  5. Choose whether you would prefer to collect your documents in person from visa application center or have them delivered to you by post.
  • Apply from within UK:

You can extend your existing visa or switch to this type of visa if you are already in UK.

 

For Tier 4 (Child) Student visa

Dos:

  • Pursue a course at an independent school
  • Apply from outside UK
  • Can extend your stay
  • You can do part-time or full-time course, if you are 16 or over.

Don’ts:

  • Pursue a course at an academy or a local authority-funded school or higher education institution
  • Join a full-time job opportunity or be self-employed
  • Pursue a doctor or dentist program
  • Work as a professional sport-person or entertainer
  • Settle in UK on this visa
  • Bring dependant: if your parents or guardian wants to accompany you, the person(s) need to apply for Parent of a Tier 4 (Child) Visa.

Eligibility:

  • You must gain a seat in a course with licensed Tier 4 sponsor
  • Enough financial support to sponsor your course and your stay in UK.
