Women Rights

There are many ways to protect and promote women's rights, including:

Educate yourself and others about women's rights issues, such as gender-based violence, unequal pay, and reproductive rights. Support organizations and movements that work to advance women's rights, such as the Women's Rights Division of Human Rights Watch and the International Women's Health Coalition.

Advocate for policy changes and legislation that support women's rights, such as the Equal Rights Amendment in the United States. Use your voice and platform to speak out against gender-based discrimination and violence. Encourage and support women to take on leadership roles and have a seat at the decision-making table.

Women's suffrage, or the right to vote, has been a long-fought battle for women around the world. In the United States, women won the right to vote with the passage of the 19th Amendment in 1920, though some women of color were still effectively disenfranchised for many years afterward.

The United Nations Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against against Women (CEDAW) is an international treaty that was adopted by the UN General Assembly in 1979. The treaty provides a framework for addressing gender-based discrimination and promoting women's rights, and has been ratified by 189 countries.
