Case Study - 2 parents and 2 children
Mother:  Bridget (30) is a stay at home parent.  She grew up in the area and many of her family live close by.  She did not complete second level education and has negative experiences with schools.

Father: John left school without any qualifications and has been out of work for several years. He is currently serving a 2-year prison sentence with 6 months left. John had involvement with social services when he was a child himself. John has a history of offending since his teens.

Child 1: Jayden age 13 years in 1st year in school and has Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).  He is frequently finding himself in trouble with teachers and people in authority.  He does not like school.  He loves football and plays with his local team.  He is very protective of his younger sister.

Child 2: Erin age 7 years in 1st class in school.  She is looking forward to making her communion next year.  She loves school and dogs.  She is hoping to get a puppy for her birthday.

Social work has been involved with the family for about a year. The children were briefly placed on the ‘at risk register’ as they were considered to be at risk of physical abuse. The family are living in a local authority housing estate in a disadvantaged community. The children are considered to be at risk of offending and anti-social behaviour due to John’s repeat offending and family attitudes to offending.  You are working in a family support service and have been asked by the social worker to design a care plan to promote positive family functioning and to increase the family’s resilience.
