⢠Students are to write an individual essay of between 1,500 and 2,500 words. Before embarking to the assignment, you should read Part 5a (Academic Writing handbook) and 5b_(Plagiarism Policy) of the Education and examination Guide (EEG)
⢠Students must submit their essay on or before the deadline through Turnitin submission online areas.
⢠All submitted files should be in a digital editable format preferably MS Word.
⢠All questions are compulsory ⢠Read the assessment criteria on pages 9 and 10 before attempting the questions

⢠Ensure to use the Wittenborg template for your cover page. Indicate your name, student number, lecturer, the module and your specialization/pathway

⢠In order to be allowed to take the final assignment (assignment 4 in the exam week), you must pass the three assignments provided in week 1, 2 and 3 (Announcements on this has also been communicated to you). Ensure to follow the instructions before attempting the assignment.

⢠Deadline for submission: Upload your work in the assignment folder available in week 1 of the module online area Submissions will be possible after the deadline specified on each of the assignments. For example assignment for week 1 cannot be submitted in week 2.

If you do not have the physical copy of the above resources, you can search online per chapter as opposed to a whole book. This way you can still manage to access the material you need for the assignment. In addition you can also use the recommended literature provided in the module guide.

Week 1 : Individual Assignment:
This assignment is divided into two parts (a) Formulating and clarifying the research topic (b) Critically reviewing the literature PART A Formulating and clarifying the research topic In this section of the assignment, you are required to formulate a research topic, problem statement, research objectives and research questions (Chapter 1, 2 )

1. You are required to come up with a research topic of your own choice and fulfill the following requirements;
(a) Provide a list of 5 articles which will inform the formulation of your research area (The list must be presented using Harvard referencing style for the respective articles. Information on how to use Harvard referencing
(b) Formulate a research topic: within the broader context, there are probably multiple topics worthwhile researching. However, for purposes of this assignment you are required to provide specific topic you want to focus on.
(c) Provide a short introduction (a half a page max.) covering the context of your research
(d) A problem statement
(e) A Research objective
(f) Research sub-objectives (A maximum of 4 sub-objectives). This will demonstrate how you break your main objective into small steps so as to approach your research in a systematic manner and achieve the answer to your main objective
(g) Main research question; Formulate an inquiry question that specifically describes what you would like to know in your investigation/study (This is a question form of your research objective. Therefore the research question must be consistent with the main objective)
(h) Research sub-questions (This is the question form of your sub-objectives. Your sub-questions must be consistent with your sub-objectives)

PART B Critically reviewing the literature 2. Based on the topic chosen on requirement 1 above, you are asked to complete a small-scale literature review. write a 1 page literature review on the selected articles. Steps to complete your small-scale literature review:

i. Use the topic you have chosen on requirement 1.
ii. Use the online library-EBSCO and google scholar to search and locate journals that include your topic's information.
iii. Find articles, read the abstracts and skim the articles to determine if they correspond well to your topic AND inquiry question.
iv. Select at least 5 journal articles to use for the project. You are required to use 5 journal articles identified in part A requirement 1a to provide a critical review of literature. You are not limited to include other credible sources (i.e reports, e-books, websites etc).
v. Read your articles and begin to sort and classify them according to their findings.
vi. Organize your articles by sorting and classifying their findings in a meaningful way, always considering your original topic and inquiry question.
vii. Write an outline for your small-scale literature review.
viii. Write your review. Include the references using Harvard style! NB; Provide valid arguments anchored on literature. Your work has to be systematic, minimum grammatical errors and ââproperly constructed statementsââ. Use themes to structure your literature review.
