3.317 Tourism Planning and Development

Task:

Evaluate an existing international destination tourism plan and write an improved strategic plan to ensure further improvement of the economic benefits to the local community and host population.

Specifically:

1) Evaluate the current regional tourism plan, assess relevant tourism strategies and provide an overview of available activities, facilities and superstructure. (25 Marks)

2) Discuss key strategic issues in the plan that could improve the social, cultural, environmental and economic benefits to the local population. (50 Marks)

3) Collect relevant tourism data and indicators and conduct a brief analysis of relevant tourism data for the destination. Use relevant tourism economic data and indicators to carry out the following tasks:

· Forecast the approximate number of visitors and/or excursionists (air, sea and land) expected to visit the area annually for the next 5 years.

· Estimate the level of combined visitor expenditures on an annual basis for the next 5 years.

Give an estimate of the number of new jobs likely to be required by the tourism/hospitality industry for the next 5 years.
