Relationship between Te Whāriki's Underpinning Theories and Approaches of Learning and Development

Theories and Approaches Acknowledged by Te Whāriki

This task requires you to write an essay that describes the relationship between Te Wh?riki’s underpinning theories and approaches of learning and development to early childhood education and practice in Aotearoa New Zealand. There are several theories and approaches to early childhood education and care that Te Wh?riki acknowledges.  These can be found on pages 60 to 62 of Te Wh?riki. 

Your essay will describe, in your own words, at least three (3) of these theories or approaches, one of which must be kaupapa M?ori. 

You need to consider:

1. What the theory or approach is and how it is relevant to early childhood and Kaiako's practice.

2. How is this theory or approach used in early childhood education and care?

3. How is the theory or approach relevant for child development and learning?

Your essay will follow normal formatting.  There will be an introduction, a body where you will describe and discuss the theories and approaches, and a conclusion.  Word limit: 750-800 words.
