Objective:

This assignment is desired to provide you knowledge of the application, implementation and technicalities involved in off-site construction methods or systems used globally. The information you require for this assignment can be obtained online, direct access to project information, the Project Manager and any other sources.

Task 1: Case study background

You are required to select a case study project (located anywhere around the world) whether residential, commercial or industrial, where an off-site construction system has been used. The building project could involve nonvolumetric, volumetric or modular construction method. You are to report on the type of the building, size, location, client and key parties involved on the project (confidentiality should be respected at all times). General information regarding the building application and its final use should also be included.

Task 2: Offsite construction method

For your selected building project, you are to describe the type of off-site construction method, structural elements, and major parts and sections such as panels and building facades on your project. These may include columns, beams, floor slabs, joists, girders, footings, foundations, cladding, etc. Also describe the structural frames in terms of the materials used. Use appropriate citations to support your descriptions.

Task 3: Rationale for offsite use

In this task you are to explain the reasons (at least five) why the particular offsite construction method was used on your selected case study project. You will need to support the reasons with appropriate citations (refer to published resources).

Task 4: Challenges of offsite construction

This task requires you to evaluate the challenges associated with the use of offsite construction on your selected case study project. The challenges you have evaluated on your selected project would need to be supported with appropriate citations.Task 5: Case for offsite implementation For this task you are to assume that you have met a potential client who has acquired a property along the Auckland-Orewa motorway, New Zealand. That client would like to build a holiday resort (5 three storey buildings) with similar structural materials and components as your case study project, however she was considering more traditional approaches to its construction. You are to collate information on the benefits of using offsite construction on your case study (task 1 to 4). Use this information to critically explain the benefits that your potential client could derive from the use of offsite construction for her holiday resort project (supported with appropriate citations)
