Guidelines
Create a scientific research poster based on the scientific technology you have been assigned in class from the following list:
Please note that students must prepare their own poster.
Technology
Define technology and describe the roles “Technologists” perform.
Describe the historical development and potential of ONE particular technology.
Describe the technology context; relate it to contemporary issues and the technology application.
You may present information from a range of reliable sources but they must be referenced.
Following the “Poster format” description there is a marking rubric. The rubric outlines the mark allocation for each poster section.
Poster format
• Posters must be prepared on a computer – this can be done in PowerPoint following the instructions below:
Open up PowerPoint
Click on “Design” and go to “Slide Size”, then “Customize Slide Size”
Change settings to:
- Portrait
- Slides sized for A3
Insert text boxes on the slide to arrange your blocks of information
Your whole poster should fit on ONE PowerPoint slide
The two most important aspects of your poster is that it should be
SIMPLE & VISUALLY APPEALING
• Diagrams and/or photographs should be included.
• Sections of the poster will include:
Title: a short statement outlining the topic of your research.
Introduction: provides the background to the technology and its development.
Scientific Principles: give a description of the science behind the technology, how it was developed and how it works.
Current application: give a description of who uses the technology and how it is used.
Discussion: you discuss your findings and evaluate the technology.
Are there any pros or cons to the technology? What is the potential of the technology, including other applications? Is there any further
development underway?
Conclusion: summarise your research.
References: all references to information from other sources should be cited in the text and a list of references in APA format included.
