Purpose: The purpose of Assessment 2 is to enable you to apply knowledge and skills you have learnt during this course to a real-world situation.
Weighting:
In order to complete this assessment, you will be required to identify and discuss a New Zealand medium sized (i.e. revenue of approximately NZD$5m - $150m) export manufacturing company. This will be your own reference-based research. You will not contact any company or its staff under any circumstances.
Scenario
You are to imagine that you work for your selected medium sized export manufacturing company in New Zealand. Your company has been approached by many parties to set up a manufacturing and distribution operation in Mexico for the first time. In your imagined role as the Head of Human Resources you have been selected by the Board to develop the following.
Part 1.
You are required to develop a leadership strategy for your chosen company. The leadership strategy should cover both countries: New Zealand and Mexico. The strategy should identify and respond to any problems such as: the selection of staff, training and development, culture, ethical issues (such as; child labour, bribery, corruption, sourcing raw materials, business services and the disposal of waste), and other problems that you think the company may face in this new market.
Part 2.
You are required to develop a communication plan to communicate the leadership strategy company wide. Make sure that the communication plan is relevant to the staff in the home country (New Zealand), as well as to the staff in the host country, Mexico.
Instructions
You will need to approach the assignment from a human resource management perspective, and incorporate theory, concepts, data and research findings in your submitted Assessment 2.
The Strategies must demonstrate comprehension of “Managing in a Globalised World” course material. Therefore, you must make reference to International Business frameworks, concepts and terminology that you have encountered in workshops, directed learning and self-directed-learning. You must also refer to your own independent research.
This must be combined with industry material and data to provide sound argument, rationale and decisions, ultimately leading to recommendations that your strategies will produce.

Advice for a successful Assessment
It is important for you to understand what you need to do, why you need to do it, and how to do it. Make a plan. Planning assists both researching and writing the report, and therefore the final report. Start early. This is a significant piece of work and can’t be completed in a short period of time.
Please refer to the marking schedule. This schedule will be the criteria against which your work will be marked. Use it as a checklist.
Please write in full sentences and paragraphs. Remember paragraphs should include approximately three to five sentences, and cover only one idea or point.
