What role do Human Resources fulfil in relation to an organisation? Make sure you discuss the historic role of HRM as well as its current role both in theory AND in practice (10 marks).

What impact does the internal and external environment have on Human Resources? Provide examples (10 marks).

Using theory/concepts/literature, discuss the reasons why organisations use performance management systems (performance appraisals being part of the entire system) as a tool for both developmental and evaluative purposes.  Compare at least 2 types of appraisals processes, (MBO, 360 reviews, rating scales, peer review as examples) discussing the benefits and pitfalls of each of the systems. (30 marks)
