Aims: The aims of this assessment are for you to: To provide an analysis of the piece of respectful and effective communication identified earlier in this course The task This task builds on Part A Provide a brief summary from Part A on the conext and or setting (this will not be given a mark but is needed to provide context for the following questions – I think we should have this in the formatting part of the rubric) Respectful Communication Provide an description of what respectful and effective commuication is and why it is used. Why is it an important skill for Social Practioners? Referring back to your setting or context from Part A, What did you notice about the communicator and their attitude to others? Why do they hold these beliefs? Positioning of Self and Others How did the respectful and effective communicator position themselves in relation to the communication – why do you think they did this? Is there any reason why they communicate the way that they do (consider their position for example were they the expert and gave information or did they use more listening skills?) What did you notice about how power was managed in this communication What were both parties hoping to achieve? Specific skills What specific describable behaviours did the communicator use and why are these important skills? Identify when these skills were used. These skills could include but not limited tooEmpathy Reflective listening Paraphrasing Clarifying Being non – judgemental Confidentiality Context and timing What about the context and timing allowed the communication be respectful and effective? What was the effect of this interaction? What happened as a consequence of this communication? So what What learning would you take into practice Have you used these skills when communicating with others – how well do you feel you these were performed?
