A 7.5 magnitude earthquake in Indonesia created a 15-foot tsunami, killing more than 400 people and displacing an untold number from their homes. These people are in need of emergency supplies like food, water, and medicine, in addition to longer-term recovery assistance to help residents. The shallow but powerful earthquake and tsunami struck off the coast of Indonesia on September 28, 2018, causing widespread damage to buildings and property. You are a special assistant to the leader of a humanitarian aid mission to the tsumami devastation in Indonesia. The mission consists of several hundred people from New Zealand, Korea, China, India and four other countries. The group will work together for approximately one year. The New Zealand contingent includes six M?ori team members.
Based on your study of Organisational Behaviour, critically evaluate how you would recommend to improve mutual understanding and effective communication among these members during this difficult mission? Include examples of how these recommendations could be applied in this challenging time and difficult situations. Identify and explain communication barriers that might occur (either interpersonal, intrapersonal, intergroup and/or intragroup) due to cultural differences among them. Critically analyse the recommendations that could be implemented to ensure that these barriers are resolved?
