Assignment details and procedure
Step 1
Identify the 3 ethical concerns or dilemmas that you will be discussing in this assignment. For each ethical concern, you should identify the significance of the issue, and the various, relevant stakeholders. For each stakeholder, you should identify the values in conflict both within each stakeholder and between stakeholders. The goal of this part of the exercise is to help you identify the different perspectives or interpretations of the same situation and the various values that are in conflict. This helps to increase your awareness of the complexity and interrelatedness of ethical dilemmas.
Step 2
Identify 4 ethical concerns /dilemmas that are extremely significant in the aviation industry. The significance can be determined in a variety of ways: its prevalence or frequency; the number of professionals or companies involved; the degree of impact, amount of money involved; number of stakeholders involved; length of time it has been going on; amount of publicity, notoriety; specific people involved; or their personal or professional interest; an increasing or decreasing trend in their field i.e., Is the issue becoming more of a problem? Or is it getting worse? In each instance, you should explain the reason for the choice and provide supporting evidence of the significance. You are encouraged to contact the professional organizations in the aviation industry and then review trade publications, newspapers, business magazines and journal articles to help in identifying relevant ethical issues and dilemmas.
Step 3
Identify the relevant stakeholders in the conflict, and what values are in conflict for each stakeholder and between stakeholders.
Step 4
Identify a professional manager in the aviation industry with whom you wish to discuss these ethical issues.
Step 5
You are required to prepare a final paper that outlines how you have performed each of the five steps of the exercise and the conclusions you have drawn. You should use this summary to reflect upon the experience and discuss what you have learned about the ethical concerns and dilemmas in the aviation industry as well as to what extent your beliefs about a career in aviation management have in any changed.
