Select between five to ten journal articles from scholarly journals in your discipline. Write a critical review of these articles. Your review should identify rationales and research findings, epistemological perspectives and methodological approaches in the articles. You should also address the question how your selection of the literature help you develop your own research.

1. Identify a research area you are interested in: for example, online advertisement; political cartoons; health communication; tourism research; cyber bullying, etc.

2. Do a library research to find the relevant journals and articles. Type your research area, for example, ‘sustainable tourism’. Tick ‘scholarly & Peer-Review’. You can also narrow down your selection by identifying your discipline and subject area.

3. Always study titles, abstracts and key words first. Titles and key words set the boundary of a research area, while abstracts usually contain thesis statements, research findings, and methodological approaches. Select those journal articles that help you develop your second assignment Research Proposal at the end of the term.

Your Literature Review should include the following:

A title
o The essay question includes the research area of your choice Introduction (100 words)
o Briefly state the purpose and structure of your Lit Review.

Body (1,200 words)
o Organise your review of the literature either by topic, theme, historical background, or theories;
o Identify research findings and methodological approaches of these articles;
o Critically analyse the strengths and limitations of the articles, and address the question of how these articles assist you in finding your own research
project.

Conclusion (200 words)
o Summarise the main points of your analysis;
o One or two sentences on the significance of your research.
