You are a Consulting Team from PwC that has been engaged by Whitehaven Coal to come up with a new 3-year strategy to present to the company’s CEO, CFO and Executive Board in the form of a written report. 1. External Analysis Using the techniques you have learned in the course, you are asked to perform a macro-environmental and an industry analysis with a view to identify the key opportunities and threats currently facing Whitehaven Coal. 2. Internal Analysis Using the techniques you have learned in the course, you are asked to perform an analysis of Whitehaven Coal’s internal environment. As part of your analysis, you must identify Whitehaven Coal’s key strengths and weaknesses including its core competencies. 3. Strategy Recommendations Based on the major opportunities, threats, strengths and weaknesses identified in Parts 1 and 2 above, you are now asked to recommend a strategy for Whitehaven Coal. You must: a) Identify and explain the strategy; b) Discuss whether and how the strategy will create shareholder value for Whitehaven Coal. 4. Balanced Scorecard Prepare a Balanced Scorecard for the implementation and monitoring of your recommended strategy at Whitehaven Coal that reflects the strsusategy your team has developed in Part 3 above.
