HFS306 User Centred Design for Interactive Systems

Question 1 You are asked to design an interactive product of your choice. This can be a physical product (alarm clock) or software (mobile app) and must be interactive. Describe your product and the user interaction and select appropriate measures to determine the product requirements. Provide a prototype and using the prototype, evaluate the product design for potential usability issues. In your report you should answer the following questions: Introduction: Provide a brief description of your product and what it is designed to do. Include a sketch to illustrate your product design.  Describe the user interaction of your product and the importance of user interaction in the design process.  Explain how your product design will accommodate for the limitations of the human memory cognitive process Product requirements: You are required to gather product requirements to design your product. Illustrate how you gathered and identified your product requirements. (Provide evidence of the information you collected in your answer). Provide an example for each type of requirement you identified for your product. You should provide an example for user, environmental, functional, data and usability requirements.  Prototyping: Create a prototype of your product and illustrate the user interaction for ONE (1) selected task (include all sub-tasks) using your product. You may choose to use a low or high-fidelity prototype.  Compare and contrast the advantages of using low versus high fidelity prototypes in the design process.  Evaluation: Evaluate your prototype by completing a heuristic evaluation (for the purposes of this assignment you will be the only evaluator). Your answer should include the following: Provide a methodology explaining how the evaluation was conducted. Present your findings from the evaluation. Use design principles to propose recommendations to improve your prototype.
