Module Description
This module focuses on the study of human development from early childhood to late adulthood; with the emphasis on the genetic and biological factors, physical, cognitive, emotional, personality and social contextual contributions to individual development. The student will be encouraged to apply development psychology principles in all contexts from the classroom to friends, family, workplace and the community.
Module Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module, students will be able to:
1) Demonstrate understanding of the physical, cognitive and psychosocial changes that humans experience from birth to adulthood;
2) Acquire knowledge on some of the most relevant theorists in development psychology, including Piaget, Freud, Erikson, Bandura, Kohlberg and Sullivan; and
3) Evaluate up-to-date research and theories designed to explain human growth and behaviour.
Assessment Question:
By applying relevant concepts and theories in Developmental Psychology, explain contemporary concerns that people in their “mid-life” period (between ages 40 and 60) are likely to experience. Write an essay of about 1,500 words (+/- 10%). The word count does not include headers, in- text citations, references and appendices (if any). Please indicate your word count at the end of your essay. You must conduct research from credible academic and news sources and engage relevant concepts and theories pertaining to Developmental Psychology to support your arguments.
