Project Description

The purpose of this project is to demonstrate your understanding of the following course concepts: 1. Apply fundamental concepts of vector image composition to create professional digital media. 2. Identify and describe vector image editing techniques and their use in the development of digital media for current and emerging applications. 3. Use industry standard software to create and manipulate vector artwork following workflow processes for delivery across multiple platforms, including print, Web sites, interactive projects, and video. 4. Produce vector artwork following ethical principles and legal guidelines. PROJECT DESCRIPTION As a freelance graphic artist, you were hired by a client to design a National Parks Poster (i.e., Yellowstone National Park, Acadia National Park, Mammoth Cave, Mount Rainier, Yosemite, etc.). This project will incorporate all the tools and design techniques that you learned throughout the course. For instance, Redwood National Park is known for its beautiful tall redwood trees. On the poster the designer would incorporate the redwood trees in the design. The design also should incorporate the name of national park. Development The poster design should demonstrate: 1. Pen Tool: at least two design elements in each stamp must be created by the pen tool. The lines created with the pen tool are smooth, including the creation of Bezier curves. 2. Fill: should be in color. A minimum of 3 colors should be used in each design. 3. Stroke: a minimum of one design element must have a stroke. 4. Gradient: a minimum of one design element must have a gradient. 5. Shapes: use the shape tool (i.e. rectangle, oval, circle, etc.) to create one unique design element. Use the pathfinder to unite, minus front, intersect, divide, exclude, merge. 6. Effects: One design element should have an effect (i.e. drop shadow) applied. 7. Pattern: use a design element made of shapes to create a pattern in the design using either a pattern brush or the symbol sprayer. 8. Mesh: incorporate the mesh tool into the design. Add a mesh to a minimum of one design element. 9. Type: incorporate type into the design. Use create outlines to modify the shape of the type to fit the theme of the design if applicable. 10. Layers: Layers should be used and named appropriately. Use a minimum of three layers. 11. Swatches: create a minimum of one custom swatch of a color in the design. Name the swatch. 12. Brush: incorporate a design element using the brush tool. Artist Statement Rationale 13. After you have designed the poster, write an artist statement that includes: a. Discuss your design in terms of visual appeal, creativity, and readability. i. Discuss why the design appeals to the intended audience. ii. Discuss why you used certain design elements and fonts. iii. The techniques used in the design. Submission Requirements 14. Submit the source file (i.e. Adobe Illustrator-.ai, Inkscape-.svg), PDF, and .png. 15. Please submit your completed project to your Assignments Folder in before the due date. Revision Keep in mind that design is an irritative process. Often there is a back and forth between the designer and client before the design is in its final form.
