Post a reply to 1st response: Producing a set of strategies to transform an organization into a global player requires a global mindset (Cabrera & Unruh, 2012, p. 32). The process of developing a global perspective incorporates many elements that include personality and skills (Developing a Global Mindset, 2021). Cabrera and Unruh say, “A global mindset is a core foundation of successful global leadership; it is a must-have” (2012, p. 33). According to Javidan and Bowen (2013), finding and nurturing a global mindset is essential (p. 150). Taking stock of the skills a leader currently possesses will provide a starting place (Cabrera & Uhruh, 2012, p. 49). Once the inventory is complete, developing strategies can commence. Javidan and Bowen (2013) suggest, first, acquiring more knowledge through examining complementary and contradictory variables in a situation to increase intellectual capital (p. 152). Second, coaching leaders to be confident in working with people culturally different builds psychological capital (Javidan & Bowen, 2013, p. 152). Lastly, mentors should work with leaders to teach them relationship skills to enhance social capital (Javidan & Bowen, 2013, p. 153). Leaders would also benefit from presentations by other leaders who can tell the stories of their experiences (Developing a Global Mindset, 2014). A leader will need to work consistently and constantly to develop a global mindset. A global perspective requires constant stretching and pushing by interacting with individuals who think, act, and feel differently (Cabrera & Unruh, 2012, p. 173). References: Cabrera, A. & Uhruh, G. To be global, leaders must develop cultural self-awareness and cross-cultural awareness (Adler & Gundersen, 2008). Cabrera and Unruh (2012) explain leaders can accomplish such a task by developing solutions that bring people together by listening, withholding judgment, identifying how others provide value and influence and ensuring all members benefit from the relationship. Leaders should balance these actions with their contributions of talking and acting based on their perspective and experience. Transforming an organization into a global player requires leaders to practice purposeful and ongoing inward self-development. To change an American company into a global player requires visionary leaders who know how to utilize various people with different talents to work together in orchestrated cohesiveness through developing relationships across borders (Cabrera & Unruh, 2012). Chakravarthy and Yau (2017) also found that to become global requires leaders to be trailblazers with a vision that fosters innovation. Similarly, Speciale (2021) asserts that becoming global requires an intercultural, or cross-cultural, acceptance of non-Western ways of thinking, living, and speaking. Speciale (2021) shares that one of the most critical paths to becoming global is learning the language.
