PBHE111 Introduction to Health Care Administration

The final major assignment in the course is a two-part final project. You will need to write a paper that includes a Privacy & Security Checklist for a specific healthcare technology such as mobile health apps like “ mysugr” app , EHR, store and forward systems, or patient portals. Next, create an accompanying memo for a supervisor that provides reasoning for the checklist, written in language that describes the basic concepts without using jargon. Submit the topic before you start the assignment for approval.

Your paper should consist of the following parts:

 

1. Introduction/Statement of the Problem

 

a. Explain why you have chosen this technology area to assess in relation to privacy and security (HIPAA/HITECH compliance). What makes it important in health care and health information?

 

b. At the end of the introduction, provide a brief outline or summary of what you will discuss in your assessment on this topic.

 

c. Use headings and subheadings.

 

d. Avoid the use of “I” or personal opinion throughout your paper.

 

2. Review of the Literature

 

a. Now that you have explained the problem, you need to demonstrate with support from the literature what is known and what is not known.

 

b. You can explain what additional work or research needs to be done in this field based on what is found in the literature.

 

c. A useful literature review tells a story that usually starts broadly explaining the topic and provides supporting statements that you make about the topic. It finishes with more specific literature that pertains to the specific area you are writing about and concludes with what still needs to be done in the topic area.

 

3. Practical Assessment in Privacy and Security

 

a. Develop a privacy and security evaluation checklist that pertains to the specific health technology you have chosen, such as telehealth, mobile health apps, health kiosk, patient portal, EHRs, Physical Therapy Store and Forward systems, social media systems used in health care, etc.

 

b. The checklist should include privacy and security areas that you will look for in the chosen health technology to see if they address this in their systems in terms of use, privacy policy, security policy, etc.

 

c. Provide information about the system you have chosen. Include screen shots to support what you have found.

 

d.Use the checklist to evaluate the specific health technology system you have chosen.

 

4. Analysis and Findings

 

a. Analyze the literature and your practical evaluation assessment and incorporate this information in tables and graphs with explanation. Don’t just use written text to explain your findings.

 

b. In your analysis and findings, describe information you found that explains how well this system meets privacy and security regulations, such as those from HIPAA/HITECH.

 

5. Recommendations

 

a. Based on what you have found from the literature and practical evaluation assessment, provide recommendations that providers can use before choosing a particular health technology system.

 

b. Discuss how these findings can impact public policy.
