The purpose of this project is to use what you have learned throughout the course combined with your own experience, and individual research to formulate a comprehensive summary analysis of a key concept in healthcare leadership addressed in the course. We learned about leadership, strategy and general management functional areas (e.g. Operations, Marketing, Finances, etc) in this class. To make the final project most pertinent to your work life, identify an area of work that needs improvement, or a new product or area of business development, and apply the lessons learned in this course to produce an alternate or improved program or concept. If you do not have a work situation to address, consider exploring a new subject of research for this project. There are options to choose from the list below or choose from your own.
You have the freedom to conduct your own inquiry. However, please include the topics discussed in the class so you apply the knowledge learned. A suggested outline for the paper follows:
A. Backgroundinformation about your chosen issue/scenario
B. The problem - What is the issue and what are you proposing is the potential solution?
C. Exploration of solutions that include analysis of following elements:
STEPS OF ELEMENTS IN exploration of solution are:
Leadership/alternate organizational structure.
Strategic assessment and identification of alternatives; compare and contrast these alternatives or use some other method to evaluate the strengths and weaknesses.
Process/operations - you can do a schematic of how the situation occurs now and then do one with your recommendation for improvements; consider the IHC case as a reference or inspiration for this. Include some sort of metrics to provide ways to evaluate your solution.
Financials - how they are impacted
Marketing/communication strategies and tactics
Quality management/outcomes measurement and management/some measure of how effective this solution is
If there is a clinical aspect to the problem, explore that area.
There may be human resource issues - not so much as a specific department, but of attracting the right people to a position and giving them incentives to meet your objectives.
Include some sort of metrics to provide ways to evaluate your solution.
D. Challengesto implementing this solution
E. Evaluationof your proposed solution - how you will do this.
