Background Information on John's Case

Psychopharmacological Case Study Paper (15% of your grade): Students will write a response paper to a case study addressing which psychopharmacological medications would likely be appropriate for the case. Students will use evidence-based research to support their recommendations. Students will also use research to support why they did not recommend other psychopharmacological medications for the case. Length: maximum 3 pages not including the title or reference pages; double-spaced using APA 6th edition format. APA 6th edition headings are required for each section of the paper. Submit this assignment under the corresponding Assignment folder in Blackboard.

Scenario: John is your client. He is a single white male 59 years old. He suffers from chronic pain and has been diagnosed with Major Depressive Disorder. The medication prescribed for John is Cymbalta, which is quite expensive. John currently is not covered by health insurance.

Conduct an online search to investigate alternative medications (and the research which supports that decision) John’s doctor might prescribe. Also identify alternative medication which (based on the research/clinic trials) should be used as “a last resort”.

Further search for medication assistance programs that best suits John’s needs. Briefly discuss the various assistance programs that you explored and what you have learned from this activity.
