Online Education vs Traditional Education: Pros and Cons

Online education can be very effective, equally effective, compared to the traditional way to earn a degree in person. It depends upon the skill of the professor. Some professors do well teaching online courses, others not so much, just as some professors teaching campus-based students are great and others are not so good. The online class as a whole sometimes you’ll get great students, who aren’t afraid to ask questions, to participate in threaded discussions, to help each other, etc.. Other times you’ll get duds, just like in the campus-based coursessometimes students participate, making it a great class, and maybe in another class the kids will just sit there, ignoring the professor, or taking notes, or playing with their phones, or sleeping, or not want to participate as well as the individual student.

People learn in different ways. Some people are more visual and need to see concepts, theories, problems, and solutions diagrammed. Some people need to hear it more than once. Some need the carrot of having to go to class, sit in front of the professor as motivation to do the work and to learn. And some are able to learn more independently. The latter group tends to do better in online courses. College courses, whether they are taught on campus or online, are going to be worth what you put into them. If you do the work, go to class, seek help when you need it (whether from the professor or from hiring a tutor), then you’ll get more out of it. If you slack off, then you won’t get anything out of your courses.

Ever since the coronavirus pandemic started during the early months of 2020, students are encouraged to take classes at home to protect themselves from the threat of a dangerous disease. Remote learning became the new normal for students throughout the country even their instructors taught. Online classes may be the norm for the foreseeable future, but are they favorable for young learners?

Flexibility: Taking virtual lessons is the best for the students to freely pick their class schedule. They have more free time now than when they were physically attending subjects and courses in school, so they can select a time slot that fits their daily routine.

Convenience: Having an online tutor means learning about matter and substances within the comfort of the pupil’s home. They can attend their lessons in their bedroom or living room, as long as it helps them stay focused. They can even show up in class while wearing loungewear as long as it looks decent and presentable.

Cost-Effectiveness: When students were taking face-to-face tuition sessions in person, they had to commute to work or ask their parents to pick them up and drop them off at the learning center. Thankfully, these transportation expenses are nonexistent with virtual classes, helping pupils and their guardians save money.

An online tutor cannot dedicate their full time to guiding and supervising students through their tuition lessons. It is up to the young learners to motivate themselves into finishing their tasks while managing their time for their other activities.
