The purpose of this assignment is to develop a personal definition of leadership and identify the core principles that influence your actions and belief systems. In this process you will create a self-portrait of yourself in the distant future and create an action plan to help you achieve your objectives when faced with difficult leadership decisions.
Autobiography (2-Pages):
Write a short autobiography of yourself. Who are the members of your family? What values did your family members inculcate in you as child? Describe two specific incidents where a family member or a loved one influenced what you consider values a leader should possess. How has your leadership style evolved as you grew up from being a child to a young adult? Where in the continuum are you now?
Imagine it is 2050 (2 Pages):
As you reflect back on your life (from this point to 2050), what are the core values and principles that have been influential in developing your character and making decisions? How would you like your family members, friends, and co-workers to describe your personal style of leadership? What contributions or achievements will you have completed?
The Plan (5 Pages):
Develop a personal leadership statement that articulates the principles that will influence your actions and beliefs as you engage in the process of leadership. This is a personal statement and should represent your unique philosophy of leadership, both in content and form. You must include some discussion how you intend to measure your progress as you move forward. There are no format restrictions for this part of the assignment and you are welcome and encouraged to utilize your creative energy in the expression of your thoughts and ideas. If you do select an artistic medium for your project, you must attach a brief written explanation that connects the artwork to your core principles and values.
My name is Stephan Jones, from Charleston, South Carolina. I am the oldest of my mom's three kids. Growing up, I wasn't the best student in the class, and I used to get in trouble. I went to jail one time for following the wrong crowd. If you had told me I would obtain my associate's and bachelor's and work on my master's, I wouldn't have believed you. My sister is the second oldest; she is an officer in the military. She graduated from Morris College in Sumter, Sc, and got her master's at North Carolina Agctural and mechanical university. She is a two-time business school graduate. My brother is the youngest of us all; he would play football at Clemson, but he tore his ACL back in high school. My brother studies at Alabama A&M University on a partial scholarship to get his bachelor's in education and minor in Sports communication.
My granny made me value what a good leader should be because she adored our development as kids. My grandmother was stern with my sister, brother, and me going to school. Even though I was the one that wasted time, she still believed in me. The second thing I would say I valued about my granny was her empathy because despite me getting in trouble and her and my mom always going to the school for me, she was a forgiving grandmother. I remember her always saying, Stephan. They aren't laughing with you. They are laughing at you. It wasn't until my 11th-grade year of high school I started to understand that. Lastly, I would say resilience. My granny always told me stories of her growing up and wanting to do better, but she came from a good family. However, my grandad side of the family struggled, but all my aunts and uncles went into the military and attended Howard University.
I would say those leaderships styles from my granny and traits of my family have passed down for me, especially with me being that kid in school who didn't care much about anything. It wasn't until maybe 2013. I went back to correct my life. I want to point out resilience because having two kids and making it this far has been nothing but a blessing from God. I lost my grandmother in 2016, and I remember before my grandmother passed, I asked her. " well, granny, what if I got on child support? She told me you'll figure it out." Fast forward to 2017, I got accepted to Alabama A&M University and was put on child support in august 2017. I think it was then that I truly realized what being resilience was. The continuum I'm at now is I'm trying to get o
