Task:
Write a clinical case study that you could publish in a scientific journal if you were a health professional, based on this fictitious patient: A 70-year-old veteran with PTSD and depression Your audience for this assignment are experts in your field, which means you should maintain a formal tone and use discipline-specific jargon. Your paper should have the following four major sections: a title page, an abstract, body of the paper, and a "References" list at the end. Please see below for more information regarding each section:
I. An APA title page on page 1 with the usual APA formatting and information. II. An abstract on page 2. III. These 11 components of the body of the paper and what you should include in each: 1 Theoretical and Research Basis for Treatment Here you should discuss background research on your patientâs diseases or health conditions, with APA citations. Toward the end of this section, you will need to include a statement about what you are trying to accomplish through your clinical case study. In most cases, your goal will be to examine whether a specific treatment or treatments will work for your patient. 2 Case Introduction In this section, you should discuss very briefly who your patient is in terms of their demographics and why they were referred to you. Please use the information from the prompt provided at the beginning of the assignment for this section and make up a reason why they were referred to you. In general, the information in this section should be made up for the purpose of the assignment because your patient is not a real person. 3 Presenting Complaints This section should be dedicated to your patientâs symptoms. Since your patient is not a real person, you will need to make up their symptoms while making them as realistic as possible. So, for example, if you are writing about a person with depression, anxiety, and substance use disorder, you will need to come up with symptoms that typically occur with all of these disorders. (If you are going to look up symptoms because you don't know enough information about the conditions, please cite your sources properly using APA citation style.) Please feel free to make this section as dramatic, intense, and complicated as you only want to. Imagine you are a fiction writer who is trying to paint a character who comes across as a real person to the reader. 4 History Discuss the patientâs medical history in terms of when their issues originally began and why. Again, this information must be made up because your patient is not a real person. 5 Assessment Here you need to talk about how you examined your patientâs conditions. Typically, medical professionals use specific assessments for specific conditions, and you will need to figure out how thatâs done for your patientâs specific conditions. You will need to research this information and provide APA citations for the assessment methods that you are going to use for your patient. 6 Case Conceptualization Here you need to talk about the specific treatment plan that you have chosen for your patient and the scientific evidence behind it, with APA citations. 7 Course of Treatment and Assessment of Progress In this section describe the specifics of the treatment your patient underwent with you as their provider and how it went. So, for example, you can describe each individual treatment session, what exactly you did, and how the patient responded. Did they get better? This information should be made up but should again appear realistic to the reader. 8 Complicating Factors and Access/Barriers to Care Describe any complications that came up when you were treating your patient. If your patient encountered any difficulties related to their access to treatment, please discuss them as well. The information in this section should be made up. 9 Follow-Up Describe any follow-up visits and what your patient told you about how they felt at the time. (Any persisting improvement in symptoms?) This information should be made up. 10 Treatment Implications of the Case Explain to the reader what the case study demonstrates about the treatment(s) used and why it matters. If you choose to use any sources in this section, please include APA in-text citations. 11 Recommendations to Clinicians and Students Explain what other clinicians and students in your field can learn from this specific case and how they can apply your findings and experience with this treatment to similar cases that they encounter. If you choose to use any sources in this section, please include APA in-text citations. IV. References formatted in APA. You should cite a minimum of 12 reputable sources in your case study. Every single source must be cited both via in-text citations and in the "References" section at the end. Recommended research databases are PubMed.gov and scholar.google.com.
