Task:
Beneath the title, type the author's name: first name, middle initial(s), and last name. Do not use titles (Dr.) or degrees (PhD). Beneath the author's name, type the institutional affiliation, which should indicate the location where the author(s) conducted the research *Abstract ?
An abstract provides a brief overview of what is included in your paper. Cover the major components of your paper.
The abstract should be on the page after the title page and should be on its own page.
The abstract should be on the page after the title page and should be on its own page. Your abstract page should already include the page header (all capitals, without the term “running head”). *Description of Problematic Behavior **(please do not reference a behavior as if it was a behavior of mine. In other words, please write as if you are writing about someone else's behavior, see below) Select a behavior of a person that you consider to be problematic. This can be either your own behavior or one that another person displays. Do not identify the name of the person is in this description. As part of the description, include the following:
Give information about the characteristics of the individual (gender, age, etc.) Give information about the circumstances in which the behavior occurs (i.e., bedtime, work, school, dinner time, in a nursing home, etc.) Provide information about the timing of the behavior (i.e., time of day, length of the occurrence, how often, etc.) Note that this should not be an overall diagnosis (such as anxiety, or OCD) Describe why this behavior is problematic. This must be described in third person. Do not use any first person pronouns. This section should be between 300 and 500 words. *Research on Interventions for Problematic Behavior (Literature Review) Use a minimum of 5 research articles (from a peer reviewed journal article) on how behavioral interventions are used for problematic behaviors. The articles do not have to cover the exact behavior, but should have some similarity to the problem you have selected, such as the setting, age group of person, etc. You will base the next section (intervention for the problem behavior) on information you find in these articles. This section should be between 4 and 6 pages in length. This part of the assignment is a standard literature review. For each research article, you should include the statement of problem, sample, method, results, and conclusion. The literature review should include an introduction, summary and analysis of the research articles, and a conclusion. Note that this should not look like an annotated bibliography. *Intervention for the Problem Behavior Based on what you found in your literature review, devise a plan for how you plan to extinguish the behavior. You need to be specific to your behavior you described. Be sure to use the terminology that is provided in your textbook and terminology that you found in the research articles. Be sure to use your textbook to provide definitions. Note that the interventions have to be included in your textbook. Note that if you choose a therapy, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, you need to directly tie interventions to a specific behavior. For example saying that you want to use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for anxiety would be too general. Make sure you are specifically addressing a behavior. This should be written in third person. No first person pronouns should be used. This section should be 300 to 500 words. *Reference Requirements Use a minimum of 5 peer reviewed articles that are from research journals and are about a research study. You may use other sources in addition to the 5 research articles, but they must be reputable. Reputable sites often come from universities, government agencies, and should have an author with credentials in the field. You may also use references that come from books, newspapers, or magazines. You may not use Wikipedia as a source. You must also use your textbook to define the concepts used in the application. The journals may be found on the Internet; however, they have to come from professional research journals. You are highly encouraged to use the Chapman library to find reputable sources. The reference list should be on a new page. This list should be double spaced and have a hanging indent. *Hints for Writing Your Paper You must have a title page in APA format and an abstract. Note that you will lose a lot of points for not having these. Make sure you cite everything in your literature portion of the paper. None of this should be your opinion. Keep your biases out of the paper. I should not be able to determine what your view is by reading your paper. Use quotations sparingly. A rule of thumb is no more than one on a page. You should not have two quotations in a paragraph. How you say something is almost as important as what you say. It is critical for your writing to flow well and have no grammatical errors. You will lose a point for each grammatical error (i.e., using affect and effect incorrectly, using impersonal you, etc.). This is a formal paper. Do not write as if you are speaking. Make sure that you reference who you are citing within the text of the paper. I should not see paragraphs that are not cited. This is a formal literature review. You have to include research on any topic you select. It should not just be a description (i.e., a paper about the types of child abuse or the characteristics of a child with ADHD). Do not use first person pronouns or impersonal you. This also applies to the example you have provided. You are expected to paraphrase most of your paper. You should not be copying large percentages or blocks of information, even if you cite them. You need to have quotation marks around any words you copy directly.
