Completing the 16 hours of observation

Task:

COVID-19, you are NOT required to visit any classrooms in person. Instead, video observations are acceptable for Spring 2021. However, some schools may allow in-person observations this semester.  If so, see option 2 below.

The 16 required hours must be completed by any of the following options:

1.Video Observations
Videos must be selected from the approved list provided by your professor.
Videos may count for all or part of the 16 hours.
2.Watch Required Videos  listed in the Video File attached to equal 16 hours.

Required Documentation
1.Field Experience Report (see directions, report outline, and rubric below). NOTE:  Your report will not be graded until the completed Time Log, signed and verifying 16 hours, is submitted.
Steps and Directions

1.Take Notes and Collect Data from video observations, in-person observations, and/or interviews:  Read the questions in the Report Outline (see below) and keep them available as a guide to take notes while observing and/or interviewing. Collect specific examples of teacher and student behaviors to use in your report.

2.Write the Field Experience Report at the conclusion of your 16 hours.  Write the report in essay format, using APA style (see APA Guidelines on the following page, and see APA resources in your Canvas course).  The report should be in the range of 5-7 pages, not including title and reference pages). Answer each question in the following report outline:
Report Outline
Part I:  Campus Information - Select a Texas public school campus for this part of the paper.  If observing in person, use the campus where your observations take place.  Use information available on the Texas Education Agency database listed below to complete this part of the report.

Campus Snapshot: https://rptsvr1.tea.texas.gov/perfreport/src/2019/campus.srch.html

A.Report the four descriptors under “School Information” from the snapshot report.
B.Describe something that stands out to you about the campus “Accountability Rating.”
C.What are the campus percentages of student enrollment by race/ethnicity?  What might this tell you about the community demographics?
D.What is the campus percentage of student enrollment reported as economically disadvantaged?  How does this percentage compare/contrast to the state percentage?
E.Using the campus STAAR Outcomes for 2019, “Performance Rates at Meets Grade Level or Above” for reading and math, describe how the campus percentages compare/contrast to the state percentages.

Part II: Instructional Strategies and Classroom Management - For each answer, include at least one specific, detailed example from your observations. Use in-text citations to identify any videos or interviews you use for this part of the paper.
A.What kinds of learning activities and/or instructional strategies did you observe that address visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learning?
B.What example questions, based on Bloom’s Taxonomy, did you observe? Identify the specific Bloom’s level for each of your examples.  (see Chapter 11 for reference)
C.What classroom management strategies did you observe? (see Chapter 11 for reference)
D.Compare at least two of your observations to the textbook content. The textbook references may come from any applicable chapter.  For this answer, consider specific terms, ideas, concepts, or principles presented in the course textbook.  Include brief quotes and/or paraphrased portions from the textbook to support your comparisons. In-text citations are required. (See Integration of Course Content in the rubric.)
Part III:  Reflection and Analysis - Based on your observations, describe your personal growth from this experience.
A.What did you learn from this experience about the teaching and learning process?
B.Describe how any of your prior ideas about teaching and learning were challenged or changed?
C.Consider how this experience helped you grow cognitively, emotionally, and socially.
