Finding Jobs and Internship Opportunities through Handshake - Discussion Assignment

Task:

For this discussion assignment, please note that you will need to post your response first before you are able to see what others have posted.

1.Use Handshake to search for Jobs and/or Internship opportunities in your area(s) of interest.  If you initially struggle to locate opportunities, expand your search geographically. If you continue to struggle, seek opportunities in related areas.

2.How do you respond to what you’ve found? (You might address the number of opportunities, location of opportunities, requirements for applying, etc.)

3.Is there any particular opportunity that you imagine applying for now or upon graduation?  If so, which one? Why?

After you post, please review your classmates’ posts. 

The Peer Review system will assign you to respond to three classmates’ responses.  These peer reviews will be assigned at the due date/time for this Discussion. So, you won’t receive your assignment until the due date/time has passed.

Your response to your peers should address something that catches your attention in your classmate’s post.  For example, you might share similar career interests with someone. Or you might be surprised by something you learn in a classmates’ post.  You might offer some advice to a classmate about the particular position they wish to pursue.

Additionally, you are welcome to, encouraged even, to respond to additional classmates. This should be a conversation.

What is a Discussion Activity?

A discussion activity is both a subpage of your online Canvas course and an assignment that is similar to traditional class discussions. Using Canvas, you will be posting your thoughts, arguments, and questions regarding materials from the class. Similar to live class discussions, you will be able to respond to other students enrolled in your class mostly through writing, unless otherwise prompted.

What is the point of Discussion Activities?

The objective of the discussion activities is for students to engage with the materials and ideas presented by this course and by your classmates. Such discussions can help you clarify your own thinking, provide you new, valuable perspectives on ideas and concepts, and raise questions that may extend or challenge the readings. Please see the syllabus for details on grading.

What Should I do To Succeed at Discussion Activities?

You should do the following: 

?Respond to the discussion prompt as comprehensively as possible. Many of these discussion activities will be a few paragraphs in length. Please refer to the specific prompt for any length requirement.
?Make sure you include direct quotations, citations, and other forms of support. These aspects to writing helps build your ethos (credibility and authority) as a writer in this class and beyond.
?In addition to posting your own response to the prompt, you will be asked to respond to other students in class. Typically, you should respond to 2 to 3 student posts. These responses ought to be respectful, meaningful, and thoughtful. Each response should be about a paragraph-long, or as specified by the Discussion assignment.
