Task:
Leaders seek out change opportunities regularly. Innovation, critical thinking, and decision making are key to making an impact on an organization. This assignment is designed to help you look at aspects of your own clinical practice and become a change agent in your organization. Use your current or past experience to identify a specific area for the change and to implement a specific intervention. This week you will practice the role of a change agent and researcher. This will be accomplished by finding at least 3 specific research articles to substantiate a process change. This project is similar to week 3; however, week 3 the focus was on the waste management plan and its details. This week the focus is on a process change and summarizing specific research that supports the process change. This week you will focus on using research articles, in addition to other sources, to substantiate a specific change in your facility. This will be accomplished by going through a process where you assess your work area or think of an appropriate area to create positive change. Search the library data base for evidence based solutions for your issue. The focus this week is showing how evidenced-solutions can support positive change. You will summarize and cite the research in the speakers notes area.
Create a roll out plan for your change/intervention based on your research findings from the library data base. Step 1: Select a topic for a change project. What do you want to change? Go in an explore each of the sites for ideas on where to implement change. The links take you to the landing page for each site. Review the following resources for potential change topic or process ideas: Institute for Healthcare Improvement: Transforming Care at the Bedside Institute for Healthcare Improvement: Hospital Inpatient Waste Identification Tool For process change resources: TeamSTEPPS® Pocket Guide Step 2: Identify the context for your change. Where will the change take place and who will it affect? Who would need to approve the change? Describe the setting where the change will take place. For example, clinical, insurance, home health, or public and community. Explain who is affected: patients, nurses, leadership, and other stakeholders in the organization. Who would need to approve the change? The CEO, unit manager or someone else?
Address the plan to this position. Step 3: Review the literature to find possible evidence-based solutions and evidence to address your topic. Pick the solution with the best evidence to support the intervention for the change. Search for support for the change and the plan to implement the change. What are the current best practices for your intended change? Find 3-5 research articles that can be summarized to support the overall plan. Be sure to have a well developed summary. One sentence is not a summary. The focus this week is showing how evidence-based research can be utilized to support positive change. Be sure to cite the material appropriately. The 3-5 sources is in addition to any other outside materials being used in the project. Research sources that guide evidence-based practice to improve outcomes related to your selected topic. In addition to any other sources or articles for this assignment, find a minimum of three to five peer-reviewed articles directly related to addressing your change topic. Use these articles to support the implementation plan by summarizing key points and adding the summary to the presentation. Do not use direct quotes in the presentation. Summaries only. Please be sure to have a good review/summary of each article and how the article supports the implementation of the project. Here are two good articles on how to summarize a research article for our class. There are many ways to accomplish this task, but for this class a summarized review of the author’s findings is what is needed. Also note when using research, we no longer write out the article’s name. Instead the format for the end of the sentence is (Author(s), date).
