AA 100 Introduction to International Arts

Question :
This is the Design Analysis Template (DA)

Remove any blue text on this template before submission

If an image from an approved website for this assignment won’t download, you will need to know how to capture Screen Shots (google it).

Delete the table and all the blue text in it before submitting your work in Canvas. In other words, this paragraph and everything including the gray box should be deleted. You may want to exclude the image placeholder frame because the formatting, too, because it may cause skewing the image, making it ill-proportioned.

  • Delete this Image Placeholder Box if you find the formatting restricts image sizes.
  • Image should be 4” on longest side.
  • In the Module assigned, you are directly linked to a page on the Google Arts and Culture (GAC) website.
  • Include the numerals below when writing your analysis. Using this template helps you do that.
  • Weekly IQ Quizzes introduce you to different Elements or Principles of Art (E&P). Label clearly the oneElement or Principle or Principle you are Analyzing in #00 below.
  • In other words, in IQ Quiz A1 your E&P choice will be either Lineor Shape or Contrast. Choose one before you begin to write or study the work of art- you will need this kind of intentional focus to do a Design Analysis (DA).
  • Namethe one Element or Principle of art you are Analyzing in this DA (Design Analysis).
  • Citation: Citation (Use the below format exactly as you see it below, on one line, with commas, capitalizations, commas, dimensions in inches or feet not centimeters, and no period at the end)

1. Title of Work (Put titles of artworks in italics or quote marks), followed by the Artist’s Name, the Method or Techniques, the Materials, and Dimensions in inches or feet, then City / Country of Origin (some internet search may be necessary to determine where the artist lived and work), and finally, the Date the work was created.

Example:  Night on the El Train, Edward Hopper, Printmaking, Ink and Paper, W 20”x H 14”, New York, NY, 1917

2. Context: Tell a story of something in the artist’s personal life, a world event, that was happening at this time in the world that may have affected the artists making this work

Image Type: Is the work Realistic, or Referential Abstraction, or Non-Objective? Name one and tell why you think.

3. Describe:name what your eyes see in the work you have chosen. This will most likely require serious observation combined with verbal restraint, i.e., scientific objectivity. If you need help ask a five-year-old to help you, it’s instinctual for them name what they see without elaboration.

4. Analyze: Name the ONE Element or Principle of Art you are analyzing. (You chose it above with numeral #00, so look there- you have to focus).
Interpretation: In your own words, say what you think and/or feel.

5. Introspection:Choose a negative characteristic trait from this link and say how you have changed since you first observed it.
