New York Snowstorms are very expensive. The average snowstorm in New York alone costs approximately, $57 million dollars and $12 million per inch of snow to remove. The amounts are so costly due to large amounts of salt, fuel prices, and the wages for the workers each snow season. According to (Garmaise, Yehudit (2020, December 6), "Whether the city sees increased snowfall, or not, however, the city has o spend the same amount of money to prepare for snow removal". It is a very costly task, however, there is a dire need for men 50 and over to reduce the risk of heart attacks due to snow shoveling.

During the 1900s, it was actually the responsibility of the residents to remove their own snow from their own pavements. These were times when only the most important areas of the borough were shoveled and that was City Hall, Wall Street, and Fifth Avenue in New York City. These are the places that people frequented and where the funding to do the work was given. Now in these days and times, snowplows were attached to the thoroughbreds; the horses, and you couldn't miss seeing a wagon or two following behind to gather the snow. These snow removals were never underway until the snowfall was completely done. There were also mechanical operatives such as broom and shovels during these seasons. During this time in the 1900s, there were not even enough men as it is today to shovel the snow. So the risk of heart attacks was lessened and not as prevalent back then as it is now. However, after the 1888 blizzard in New York, things changed. This blizzard was so hazardous on so many people. It took many lives including animals. For days, the streets were blocked without an inkling of rescue in sight. People were literally snow buried, yet civil war veteran George F. Waring Jr. was the active Commissioner who was there to help in the cleaning of the New York Streets and sideways. He formed a group of men to clear snow on the streets of New York, called the Waring Era, 1896. This was so very necessary because the new york snow seasons were horrific. So during his tenure, he proposedto be responsible for the citizens in helping to clean up the streets and walkways for the health of the city and the citizens. "Waring hired private contractors specifically for snow clearance

This particular website and writing state that it is required of New York City residents to shovel their own walkways, clear their ice, and snow. It all must be decided when the snowfall ends. This is specifically for building owners, tenants, occupants, and lessees. This is so that the pedestrians can have a clear path to walk on. Apparently, there is a standard code that has been established according to (city building owners (2020, October 27), "failure to remove snow and ice within the time recurred by the New York City Administrative Code can result in a department of Sanitation ( DSNY ) violation". This is a summation of what the State of New York requires the landlords of the buildings to subject their tenants to adhere to. In most cases, it is the landlord's responsibility. I advocate free funding for the clean-up of snow for only snow shovelers aged 50 years and over (men). This is my main concern!

The dangers of shoveling snow are vast, and some do it without being equipped with the knowledge and the risk of heart attacks. The discomfort from this activity such as overexertion, shortness of breath, dizziness, loss of vision and etc. can be overwhelming to a person who is shoveling snow and not necessarily in the best of shape. Some benefits to shoveling snow are good overall health, maintenance of exercise routine (cardiovascular ), and good eating habits, and a good weight. Exposure to cold for long periods of time, one should stop. I tend to disagree with what is said in the video about hiring someone to do the work for the snow shoveler because I advocate funding from the stakeholders to assist in this need. This type of snow shoveling can cause strain to one's heart and body. The effects are so substantiated and should be done with precautions. Those who are in cold, freezing temperatures and sedentary groups are at the most risk for heart attack. According to (Dr. Brennan )2021 " If you are shoveling and start getting short of breath, stop what you are doing immediately and go see a doctor"(Yale News, 2021).
