Exploring New Experiences and Challenging Worldviews
Questions:
After reading The Snow Rocket and Allegory of the Cave, your task in this essay is to explore the ways in which new experiences challenge our current worldviews.
You will spend much time with the texts mentioned above, but you may also choose to reference other readings from this or other classes. As with other essays for this course, feel free to pull your own materials from assignments in this class to build this essay.
Before you can write this essay, you will need to consider the following Questions :
1. In what ways did the characters in The Snow Rocket change as a result of their journey? As a result of their interactions with others? As a result of their feelings of being disoriented and lost? That is, what was it, specifically about that journey that affected them?
2. Did Romeo and Lou actually change at all? Or did they return home different somehow? You will need to provide evidence for your assertion.
3. Thinking about the cave allegory, where did Romeo and Lou fit? Were they the chained-up prisoners? Were they the passers-by? Someone else? Again, support your points.
4. Spend some time with the allegory of the cave. Explain it and offer some unpacking of it. This should be done before you actually use it to answer above.
This is a 2000 word essay and should follow the same conventions as the other essays--MLA format, 12 pt font, etc.
