My First Airplane Ride: A Memorable Journey to America

Task:

I was very nervous as I bordered an airplane for the very first time approximately, six years ago. As I walked up the ramp to the entrance of the plane, my heart was pounding as I walked through the doors of the Muritala Mohammed Airport in Lagos Nigeria. My Husband had applied for me to come to join him with our children. Walking through the automatic doors I enter the airport for the first time on my own. My fear was overwhelming as I got closer and closer.

Our plane was ready for flight. As soon as the passengers had boarded the flight, the entrance gate of the flight was closed tightly by two airhostesses. The flight attendant, who was wearing a white short dress, said,” Welcome aboard KLM flight to Amsterdam.” It’s time to be taken oof, the temperature inside and outside and the flight formalities need to be maintained by the passengers. The   announcement of seat belts to be tied by the passengers. The flight started with an immense speed to run on the runway first and then took off the land with a huge giggling sensation in the stomach for which I had to hold tightly with my hands on both seat handles.

I sat down and the engines roared as I got more and more scared. After I took my seat and fastened my seatbelt the flight attendants went over the safety precautions. They were all very benevolent and explained to all the passengers what we were to do in case of an emergency. I had kept reminding myself that it was more likely for someone to die in a car accident than a plane crash, or so I have read.

The plane started to move down the run way. My hands started to shake as the plane got faster and faster down the runway. So then finally we were in the air and that’s when I calmed down a little. five hour and thirty minutes later I was on the ground at Amsterdam where we spend 4 good hours stop over. When we landed in Amsterdam I realized that we had to wait till everyone was off the plane for us to get off, and then waited for another 4 hours to catch our next flight.  It was so boring waiting.

After 4 hours stop over at Amsterdam, we boarded and KLM flight going to Houston Texas." The pilot started the engines which gave out a loud roar, and then it began to move. Soon it was airborne and flew higher and higher. I looked through the window these time  and enjoyed the panoramic view of the city. The river looked like a silver-thread broken here and there. The people looked like dots and buildings like toys. I was filled with great joy and thrill. Our plane flew smoothly and glided through the air like a bird. The trees, houses, buildings, rivers etc., seemed flying away backward with a great speed. Small woolly clouds floated around us making the view that of a fairyland. The plane glided at area speed so smoothly that I hardly felt any movement and motion, but a very gentle push. The landscape below presented an enchanting sight.

Finally, we landed down and it was dammn cold outside in Houston Texas.  Outside of George Bush Airport was a security officer directing the traffic, immediately he saw me he started laughing he greeted me and said “your first time in America”, isn’t it”? I answered “yes”, with a smile. He said because the way you dress.  I dressed like someone working a cold freezer with the impression I had back home that America is always cold, even the people that has never been to America before will tell you the story of the Land.
