1. he Unit 2 Test on American Literature from 1914 - 1945 will open on Friday, October 29, and will remain open until Monday, November 1, at 11:59 p.m. It will cover the following material:
a. Excerpts from The Souls of Black Folks (W. E. B. DuBois)
b. Excerpts from Up From Slavery (Booker T. Washington)
c. Neighbour Rosicky" (Willa Cather)
d. Poetry" (Marianne Moore)
e. Mending Wall" (Robert Frost)
f. The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock" (T. S. Eliot)
g. in Just--" (E. E. Cummings)
h. The Snows of Kilimanjaro" (Ernest Hemingway)
You will have 90 minutes to complete the test (the same amount of time as that allowed for an in-class student to take the same test). At the end of this time period, your test will automatically be submitted whether you have finished it or not, so be sure to budget your time well, and be sure to study before you begin.
As you budget your time while taking your test, remember to allot enough to cover the latter portion, which is weighted more heavily. Do not get stuck on 1-point questions; you may always come back to them if you have time.
You may use your books and other materials from the weeks' lessons to help you. However, you should not receive outside help other than these resources. Your test will receive a "0" if you do so. Be sure to look over discussion board responses and corrected answers to questions to prepare. Also, be sure to watch the live lecture if you were unable to attend. All of your work should be graded by this Friday.
Since this is a timed test, you do not want to rely on looking up answers once you start. You cannot come back to the test later once you begin it; you must finish within the 90-minute time period (and I will not reset it, so make sure that you are working from a reliable computer). Also, realize that most of the answers actually require that you are prepared in advance. Most students who run out of time try to look up all of the answers when they should already be familiar with the material, so study well! Look over the discussion boards and graded assignments in Unit 2 as well as review the materials themselves.
