Here are some things to consider as you research your area of interest.
Know your audience- remember your goal is to educate your audience on the epidemiology of a particular disease.
Your project must be data-driven and must contain a public health message.
You must apply the epidemiology skills and tools.
Remember you are not just copying and pasting data or information, but you should show the competencies and knowledge every epidemiologist should have when describing a particular topic.
For example, you should include epidemiology by person, place, and time to describe your findings.
provide information about the incidence, prevalence and or mortality rates of the condition or risk factors that are related to topic.
Describe prevention strategies to address the issue and discuss study design, measures of association.
The more epidemiological tools you include in project, the stronger it will be.
The students will be asked to analyze and interpret data to present a professional epidemiology report in a PowerPoint format and a one page-written presentation. Â
Part 1: Outline of the topic, hypothesis, gathering evidence and data, summarizing findings using epidemiological methods and calculations, reporting findings. (60 points)
Part 2 : Written epidemiology report communicating to different audiences
Outline of the Part One Project Power Point Presentation:
As a public health professional, some of your professional responsibilities will be to communicate effectively with different target audiences concerning topics that pertain to epidemiology.
Each student is required to develop a power point presentation and a one-page news report on an epidemiology-related topic chosen by the student and approved by the faculty Instructor through via email.
The assignment consists of the development of a power point presentation about a particular cause of mortality or morbidity in the county where the student resides. For example, The ââPrevalence/Mortality Rates due to Heart Disease in Marion County, Florida.ââ
The power point presentation:
Topic, hypothesis, gathering evidence and data, summarizing findings using epidemiological methods and calculations, reporting findings.
Outline of the Part Two Project Epidemiology Report:
Students will be asked to provide a one-page report summary. Your report will highlight your epidemiologic project topic as a real public health issue.
The report should also highlight the implications of your findings related to your chosen disease.
The report should include detailed surveillance information, recent changes in the rate of the disease, and potential reasons for these changes.
